About GCHD

The Grayson County Health Department follows the national model of public health which is to prevent, promote, and protect. There are several different health departments throughout the state. Some health departments are part of a district while others are independent. GCHD is an independent health department. Although independent, GCHD is affiliated with the Kentucky Department for Public Health. GCHD is managed by the Grayson County Board of Health.

Welcome to another exciting year at Grayson County Health Department! As we begin 2023 within our communities, we have rallied around three strategies as a team. These strategies will not only help us to continue vital services; they will also help us to make improvements. 

​

These strategies are:

​

• Improve services throughout the entire department.

• Work to become an even better community resource for public health information.

• Collaborate with community partners to streamline services thereby helping those that utilize the local health department have access to services even outside the organization. 

​

We are a team committed to acts of service and making sure that the health department is accessible to all of our communities. We believe that public health is the foundation of any healthy community. Therefore, we will continue to work to ensure that Grayson County becomes an even healthier place to call home.

What we do

The Grayson County Health Department has served the county and surrounding areas for decades. We have a strong legacy of helping our communities with disease prevention, response, and recovery. GCHD’s commitment to public health has never wavered. The last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have reiterated the role that GCHD plays in the overall health and well-being of residents. We are proud to be a part of so many lives!

• The following services are available at the Grayson County Health Department:

  • WIC – nutritional assistance for both mom and baby.

  • HANDS – baby/toddler education/skills assistance.

  • CLINIC – Family Planning, STD testing, TB screening, wellness checks, vaccinations, and more.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL – Plumbing inspections, permits, food inspections, etc.

  • EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

  • HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS – tobacco prevention, disease prevention, safe sleep for infants, healthy relationships, car seat program, and more.

• Community Partnerships

  • The health department partners with key community partners to build bridges to connect people with services that we do not offer. Key community partners include Grayson County Alliance, Leitchfield Animal Shelter, Communicare, Silver Leaf, Spring Haven, Owensboro Health Twin Lakes MOMS Program, and more.
